The
Parish of Jarrow and its partners in the Wearmouth-Jarrow Partnership
are celebrating the announcement that the twin Anglo-Saxon Monastery
of Wearmouth-Jarrow will be the UK's nomination for World Heritage
Site status in 2009. The announcement was made on 10 October 2006
by the Department of Culture Media and Sport . The twin monastery
was a European cultural centre and home to the Venerable Bede.
